Working together for the well-being of Aboriginal people within the Kootenay Boundary

Vision

The impetus of the work of the KBASC is systemic transformation from the collective knowledge of the Nations of the region. This Nation driven, community-based perspective can inform systemic transformation and enrich approaches to legal recommendations as found in key documents and legal instruments as the BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, Reclaiming Power and Place MMIWG Calls to Justice, In Plain Sight Report, and the Métis Nation Relationship Accord.

In 2025, KBASC Members came together to talk about the journey of the collaborative.  Those discussions were recorded by graphic facilitator, Tanya Gadsby of Fuselight Creative.

How We Work

The KBASC meets two times a year as a Members table, and once a year with our Partners. Our work is to advance action in three priority areas, as reflected in our strategic plan.

These areas are:

  • Strengthening the Collective
  • Advocacy and Accountability
  • Communications and Engagement

In addition to scheduled meetings, the KBASC receives requests for engagement throughout the year. These requests are responded to as they are received. For more information on how to reach the KBASC, please visit the Engage page.
